Hello!
I have found the picture now. An interesting letter!
This one was planned "ROUND The WORLD FLIGHT" following the Amerikafahrt.
The 1st Amerikafahrt 1929 had already on May 16th and 17th, 1929 and, however, has been cancelled.
I think, that as long as the letter has lain in the USA, for till him as required for this one Sender could be transported.
Say hello!
Steffen

Steffen is right, this is an interesting cover! And Steffen is right with his analysis - this cover was intended for the America Flight.

I must admit that I have never paid attention to this fact that not only the German mail was affected by the aborted America Flight from 1929 (Michel 23), but also US mail was affected. Indeed the cover was dispatched on May 8 which was in time for the return flight, but since the airship never made it to the US on that flight, the US mail intended for the return flight (as well as the German mail of the outward flight) was stored for the next flight, which was the Round The World Flight in August 1929 (Michel 28). So we have a new catalogue number: Michel or Sieger number 28.A should be 28.Aa for mail dispatched in May 1929 intended for the America Flight 1929 and Michel number 28.Ab for mail dispatched in July/August 1929 intended for the Round the World Flight: Both mail ended on the Round the World Flight.

Thanks TALLTREES for sharing this cover here at this forum and for opening our eyes on a new variety!

Hello TALLTREES !
Steffen found out the most interesting fact concerning your nice letter: it was designated to the return flight of the first America-flight 1929, which was planned for end of Mai. But this trip ended early in southern France because of an engine breakdown and it lasted until August 1, when “Graf Zeppelin” could leave again for America.
And so your letter had to wait for the airship until the night of August 7, when it travelled back to Germany. But this flight (number 28) was for the Americans the first leg of the “Weltrundfahrt” – the first flight round the world: the famous press-tycoon William Randolph Hearst financed this trip significant, his precondition was, that it started and ended in New York. That’s why the American “Round the World Flight” started at August 7 in New York - the German “Weltrundfahrt” began, where your letter arrived: from Friedrichshafen at August 15.
The postage rate for this leg was 53 cent for a postcard, $ 1.05 for a letter – the franking is correct.
By the way: your letter has the same number in Sieger- as well as in Michel-catalog: 28 A). That’s unique! :o
