WELTRUNDFAHRT 1929

Beitragvon TALLTREES » 17. Feb 2010, 16:35

Hello again. Could any member give me some information on this Cover. I can not figure out the correct Sieger catalouge number :?: . It has a 4 RM Zeppelin postage stamp, and the date on the Boardpoststemple is "3 .9. 29", and the Backstamp is dated "FRIEDRICHSHAFEN - 4 9 29 - 8-9 - BODENSEE" . Could you tell me on which leg of the "WELTRUNDFAHRT" was this mail sent :?: , and why it has a 4 RM Zeppelin postage stamp was used for this flight :?: . I enclose a picture of the front and back of the Cover.
Thanks again

Hello TALLTREES,
it's a cover of 1929 World round Flight with board mail stamp 03.09.1929 (mailing at Zeppelin board post office) without information stage stamp (Leitstempel). Stage is Lakehurst-Friedrichshafen 1.09-4.09.1929. Catalog Nr. is Si.30.h). Post costs for a letter at this stage are 4 RM (See Si.,p.84).
Best regards,
pasol.

Hello TALLTREES,
it's a sister of your cover - the same stage (Lakehurst-Friedrichshafen) card with board mail stamp 03.09.1929 Si.30.h), but for card post costs are 2 RM.
Arrival stamp on backside. And I think the same hand was wrote. Unfortunately, without text, but sent by someone from the crew or passengers, which our colleague Alfred likes. Question to Alfred: Who is this man ?
About your wish to take Sieger on English (instead or together with German), I think "Sieger on German" it's tradition during 80 years, like Guard in special uniforms.
Best regards,
pasol.

Hello pasol!

It’s good to see, that at least one eZEPtalk-member is reading my articles here … ;)

In my opinion it’s very probable, that it was a crew member, who delivered the postcard to the Board post office – a passenger would have written anything like a message. But I write consciously “delivered to the office” instead of “wrote the postcard”, because I think, it was written in advance – probably by the addressee -, who instructed the crewmember to deliver it for him at the appointed date.

And for me, the most “suspicious” crew member is again Kurt Schönherr, the “Postmeister”: we know, that he had a connection to Mr. Eduard Petersilie in Osnabrück (That’s really the name of this poor guy …) Look here: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=240#p865

Even though we see a different handwriting, I’m rather sure, that there are enough references.

Best regards
Alfred

Hello TALLTREES, Hello pasol !

By the way: I can add a Boardpost-card from a shorter leg: between Los Angeles and Lakehurst it was a "continental" leg - the rate for a postcard was only 1 RM (like for Inner-European mailings too)- Sieger 30.g)

Regards!
Alfred

Hello Alfred,
thanks for the details, I'm not in vain asked the question. I am always with great interest and attention to read your articles and appreciate your opinion. I would add too an interesting card (which recently saw) from the same "source" in your article.
Yours,
pasol.

Hello pasol and Alfred. This is good news to me on the History of the Cover that i listed that it could have been sent from on board the Airship by Kurt Schonherr all the facts up to now add up.

Hello friends,
it's another card of the same World flight 1929 (the full route). It is interesting that it received regular 15.08.1929 and board stamps 16.08.1929 in Friedrichshafen together.Siger specifically these cards are not identified. So, it is 30.Ad and 30.Bd simultaneously !!! Another oddity under Sieger.
In addition, it has some private extra stamps. Arrival stamp is on backside 04.09.1929 Friedrichshafen.
Regards,
pasol.

Hello pasol !

Congratulations to this philatelic gem! I guess, that not many of us have seeen a similar piece from this flight before.
From "my" Pan-American-Flight I know a postcard to Rio with both stamps: Friedrichshafen 18.5.1930 and Bordpost 19.5.1930. That means Sieger 57.E) and 57.M). (But I get problems with @zeppelin, if I show it in the wrong thread .... )
Of course, there is no catalog-listing for this variety too.

Best regards
Alfred
